Bird Watching

 

The diversity of habitat to be found within such close proximity of Refugio Monduver makes for some excellent bird watching.

The area immediately around Refugio Monduver is home to species such as Crested Tit, Crossbill, Firecrest, Sardinian Warbler, Chough and Rock Bunting.  Summer visitors include Nightingale, Wryneck, Red Rumped Swallow, Golden Oriole and Bee Eater.  Booted Eagle and Short Toed Eagle regularly pass through the valley.

Albufera de Valencia is of international importance and lies less than one hour´s drive away.  The species list is far too numerous to publish here, and rarities can occur throughout the year.  Herons species include Grey, Purple, Night and Squacco.  Little Bittern and Collared Pratincole also occur regularly as do Spoonbill, Glossy Ibis and Greater Flamingo.  Duck species include Pintail, Teal, Red Crested Pochard and Shelduck.

Other coastal wetlands within easy reach of Refugio Monduver hold key species such as White Headed Duck, Purple Gallinule, Whiskered Tern, Wood Sandpiper, Great Reed Warbler and Bluethroat.
